You make a good point...one jock in town lost his gig on the radio and now he's waiting tables. He called me and said he will work a shift for nothing just to keep his name in the game. Is he happy? No way!

As a PD OD and morning guy. I just don't know any other way in the door at the radio station other than unpaid intern for someone trying to break into the industry. Call it what you want but it worked out real well for me. I made a choice. At that age, I would rather work at something I had a passion for at no pay than pump gas or bag groceries for a couple of bucks an hour. Used? Not really. It was my idea...I really wanted the gig. My first gig in radio (1973) was unpaid. I worked 8 hours a day writing and reading 6 complete 5 minute News casts with actualities that aired on the hour.
