Re: Calling All Radio! Calling All Radio!

True, but sometimes if you're looking for the light you have to open a different door.

Re: Calling All Radio! Calling All Radio!

Nice pep speech. If you don't mind my saying so, just like the kind a military commander might give to a bunch of raw recruits about to enter a battle they can't possibly win. What's missing is "what can we as talent do about it?" Well, I shouldn't say "we," I got out of radio when I saw what was ha...

This actually happened, I swear

Not entirely radio related, but the story is true!

Re: What do you predict about Radio's future?

I agree, absolutely. Problem is, it's going to take a long time for the behemoth conglomerates to fail... which they ultimately must do... before some perceptive broadcasters can move in to pick up the pieces at bargain basement prices. I know a number of very, highly placed radio execs who've told ...

Re: Radio's Last Contest - Radio's Last Employee

Great piece. Only one thing, however... radio was ALWAYS run by suits with no perception of the intrinsic value of talent. Well, for the most part anyway, I did work for a couple of enlightened souls, but for the most part they were three piece scum-buckets. It was many years ago that I heard this n...

Re: Radio's Last Contest - Radio's Last Employee

I've been saying this for several years... as long as I've been a part of this list. I've been pilloried and called names by more than a few, but my message remains the same... get out while you can. It's only the fear of failure which keeps many from pursuing other careers. Learning a new job isn't...

Re: From The Balcony

Well, a couple of points. First of all, I remember Keener well, but I don't buy into the "Drake debacle" comment at all. I worked at CKLW, and found the atmosphere not at all stifling. Keener was a great radio station, but it was their signal not the Drake format that did them in. CKLW is a 50,000 w...

Re: Who's REALLY getting hurt from all this.

There already was a disaster, in 2002 a train carrying poisonous anhydrous ammonia derailed in the middle of the night , and since there was "no one home" at the local Clear Channel outlet, KCJB, the community was not notified in a timely manner.

Re: I Admit It - Just About Done

It's tough and frightening to leave, I speak from personal experience as you know. But I can say this... once you do get out you'll never look back. I've been out of radio for 12 years now. I keep in touch with my old pals and poke in here from time to time to see what's new, mainly because Joel Den...

Re: How Radio Will Survive!

I agree 100% I'm hearing a LOT of innovative stuff on the air in smaller markets. A lot of it from former major market players who were tossed out on their asses from CC, Citadel, Cumulus etc. a few years back, and wound up in small town radio. They're just waiting for the right moment to get back i...
