Re: Lee Abrams on radio

Well it goes without saying that he knows what's wrong, and that he articulates it well. That was my point, really, there's nothing there that hasn't been addressed in this forum ad infinitum. What always tends to amaze me is that these "geniuses" can appreciate what's wrong, but can't articulate wh...

Lee Abrams on radio

This may be the most articulate evaluation of radio in it's present state that I've seen.

Re: FRUSTRATED BEACH-COMBER SEEKS ADVICE

Look Rob here's the thing, talent doesn't mean much in today's radio environment as far as I can see. You could have the best chops in the biz, and still (as a practical matter) be unemployable. What I'm wondering is this... why has moving on not worked out? I spent 35 years in radio, it was all I k...

Re: FRUSTRATED BEACH-COMBER SEEKS ADVICE

Honest to God, if you've been out of work for 7 years you're seriously deluding yourself by continuing to pursue this. I know people who've been out for a year or so, but have managed to find something. I've never heard of a qualified talent being out of work for 7 years. The industry is telling you...

Re: Where is the New, Young Talent?

Man, with the attitudes I'm seeing here from the "young talent" it's no damned wonder you can't get hired. FYI kid, maybe the reason you can't relate to Mancow is that he grew up, and you didn't. You cast aspersions on people who've managed to hang on to radio jobs, or obtain new ones in the most di...

Re: Job at Production Company vs. Radio Station

Agreed about Marice Tobias, I've worked with her before but there's no way in Hell I'd pay $4000 for a demo. Unless you're IN L.A. or NYC and you're ALREADY active in V/O these folks can't help you. Getting started in V/O is a bitch... let me rephrase that... a Bitch. That's with a capital 'B." Also...

Re: Job at Production Company vs. Radio Station

You don't "get a job" with a voiceover service, you put together some sample reels and market yourself. If you're real lucky, and you're in L.A., NYC or Chicago you might find an agent, but that's very unlikely for a beginner. You have to forget your radio background, the last thing producers want t...

Re: Job at Production Company vs. Radio Station

By career equity I mean job credibility. About all a production job in radio will do is provide you with some street cred for another radio job. That's a lateral move, in my opinion.

I was a air talent and voiceover guy, never a production guy.

Re: Job at Production Company vs. Radio Station

You'll receive no career equity from working as a radio Production Director. It seems to me that a move like that would be a step down

Re: Where is the money?

Depends on what you mean by "medium market," there's a whole range of market sizes and station owners in that category. I'd think that $35,000 is a fair guess. Depending on one's experience and track record maybe more, maybe less. Don't give up on radio, just make sure you have other skills that you...
