MY... MY... MYfm! What "Now?"

Clear Channel launches two major market Hot AC stations in the same week with WLIT (93.9 MYfm) in Chicago and KNBQ (102.9 NOW) in Seattle.

Three Hot AC stations in Seattle seems like a bit much. Not to mention they're going up against two big heritage stations like WTMX and KPLZ. Hmmm... I wonder how this will all turn out? :?

I don't know what Clear Channel is thinking in Chicago; if you include an HD-2 station, there are as many as 5 other Hot AC stations that reach into that market. In Chicago proper, there are WCFS HD-2, WIQI and WTMX. There are also WXLC in the suburb of Waukegan and WZVN in Valparaiso IN which can reach the south side of the city. Maybe it's just a stunt?

Seattle makes more sense as there are only two Hot AC stations in that market for CC to contend with. KNBQ and KRXY out of Olympia, and I don't think they have a very strong signal. KNBQ was recently sold to Sinclair when Sinclair bought out Fisher. Sinclair owns no other radio stations, and has been buying up TV stations like Clear Channel bought radio stations when the ownership caps changed in the 90's. Can 3 radio stations and an LMA excite that company very much, so are they just an afterthought, or will they be spun off yet again? Perhaps CC thinks they can take advantage of that uncertainty?

OH, I AM SO SORRY! My dyslexia got the best of me.

To clarify: KNBQ is owned by Clear Channel and KPLZ is owned by Sinclair.... I got it wrong.

And today, CLEAR CHANNEL, (not Sinclair) received new calls for KNBQ. The station is now KYNW.
