How to get a job if you're out of work.

Post by kellybgood » Thu Mar 18, 2010 3:34 pm

Here are a few simple steps you can take to stay in the radio industry if you're currently looking through the job market...

Firstly.. Get a LinkedIn account. I can't tell you how important it is to put all of your contacts in here. Even the rival station (if such a thing still exists) We're all in the same boat and having these contacts can come in handy these days.

Secondly.. If you're a jock ... get to podcasting. Don't let your talent go unnoticed. Its very cheap to set up and will keep you on top of your game. Plus this will give you a chance to podcast about anything you want. Whether it be music news, fun programs, or just interviews.. there is a lot of room for this kind of thing and a lot of people are making a living from this "believe it or not"

Third.. Stay updated on the news and on the industry. Its good to be in the know. AllAccess is the best tool for this. It will let you know what stations people are moving around to. Which is great so you can keep track of your contacts.

Lastly... Make sure every one of your radio contacts knows that you are looking for work and where to find your resume online ...(thanks LinkedIn)

Good luck everyone!!

Good points here Kelly!

Using your contacts is the smartest thing you can do. There is a whole lot of talent out there
now, its all about separating yourself from the rest.

And if you get good at podcasting, do it at broadcast quality and syndicate yourself.
