### Feet Per Second to Miles Per Hour

Posted:

**Fri Aug 08, 2014 1:09 pm** Doc: If I know that something (it doesn’t matter what) moves at 4 feet per second, how can I convert that into miles per hour? Sorry for the simple question, but I’m stumped. Thanks. - SJ

SJ: There is a very simple way to answer your question. I’ll direct you to the website called Wolfram Alpha and when you get there, enter this: 4 fps = mph in the search box.

So, click on this: Wolfram Alpha and type away.

Hint: you’ll see that 4 feet per second is 2.727 miles per hour.

4 feet per second

240 feet per minute

14,400 feet per hour

5280 feet in a mile

14400/5280 = 2.727 mph
